AMHERSTBURG — What started out as a pumpkin carving for three girls has turned out to be a large pumpkin carving party that requires the rental of a hall.

Jason and Dawn Mulder began their Halloween tradition ten-years-ago for his Jason’s three younger sisters. They invited more people throughout the years and more and more kept coming to the point where they now use the Amherstburg Cultural & Recreation Centre as the party is too big for their home.

This year’s pumpkin carving party was held Oct. 24 and saw 45 pumpkins carved and 70 people attend. Pumpkins ranged from the traditional jack-o-lanterns to Disney characters and one that looked like Lionel Richie.

“It’s developed into something neat. We love it,” explained Dawn Mulder. “We look forward to it all year long.”

She explained that most people take their pumpkins home but those that are left are the subject of a “drive-by pumpkining” as they are placed in the yard of someone who the Mulders know have children and lit up.

“Some people do Christmas,” she said with a smile. “We do pumpkin carving.”
