AMHERSTBURG — A pair of Gr. 8 students at Malden Central Public School are doing their part in the fight against breast cancer.
Ashley Taylor and Haley Rose created and sold pens decorated with pink flowers in order to raise awareness of breast cancer and money for the cause. For $1 each, their schoolmates and families got a chance to support them and the support was strong as they sold over $20 worth on the first day alone.
“It was originally my idea,” said Taylor. “In my family, there is cancer and I wanted to do something about it.”
Rose said she is a good friend with Taylor and wanted to help. They said they don’t have a fundraising target other than raising as much as they can. Both girls said it feels good to help out but they weren’t quite expecting the positive reaction they received. They said they are going to donate the money to the Canadian Cancer Society.
“It’s kind of overwhelming,” said Taylor.
They sold the pens last week and planned to continue at least through this week.
“We feel good because we know it’s going for a good cause,” said Rose.
